Getting to Nashik & Trimbakeshwar
How to reach the Nashik Kumbh Mela by train (Nashik Road), flight (Ozar and Mumbai airports) and road, how to get to Trimbakeshwar, and what is planned for parking and shuttles.
At a glance
| Arriving at | Distance to Ramkund | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Nashik Road railway station (NK) | about 10 km by road | Most pilgrims; trains from Mumbai and across India |
| Nashik (Ozar) airport (ISK) | about 22 km by road | Domestic flights; check current routes before booking |
| Mumbai airport (BOM) | about 170 km by road | International and most domestic flights, then road or rail |
| Trimbakeshwar | about 28–30 km from Nashik city | Kushavarta Kund and the Jyotirlinga |
Distances are approximate. On Amrit Snan days the last few kilometres are walking only, so plan for 5–10 km on foot.
By train
Nashik Road (station code NK) is on Central Railway's Mumbai–Bhusawal main line, so many long-distance trains between Mumbai and north, central and eastern India stop here. Devlali (DVL), the next station, is also close to the city. From Mumbai CSMT the journey takes roughly 3½–4½ hours; the Panchavati Express is one of the daily options.
- Book early: trains to Nashik around the Amrit Snan dates will fill up weeks ahead.
- Kumbh special trains have not been announced yet. We will add them here when Central Railway publishes the list.
- From the station, use city buses, autos or app cabs to the city. Agree the auto fare first or use a prepaid counter if one is open.
By air
Nashik's airport is at Ozar, about 22 km from the city, with a limited set of domestic flights. Routes change often, so search for flights to ‘ISK’ before planning around it. Most pilgrims flying in use Mumbai airport and continue by road (about 4–5 hours) or by train from Mumbai.
By road
- From Mumbai: the Mumbai–Nashik highway via Kasara ghat, or the Samruddhi Mahamarg expressway with its exit towards Nashik.
- From Pune: the Pune–Nashik highway (NH-60) via Sinnar, about 210 km.
- From Shirdi: about 90 km; many pilgrims combine both.
- MSRTC (ST) buses connect Nashik with all of Maharashtra and neighbouring states, including AC services from Mumbai and Pune.
Parking and shuttles during the Kumbh
Private vehicles will not be allowed near the ghats on major days. Nashik Municipal Corporation has identified about 35 parking locations, and Nashik Police have released a preliminary traffic plan in which private vehicles stop at outer parking zones and shuttle buses carry pilgrims to inner holding points.
These are draft plans reported in the press. Exact parking zones, shuttle routes and timings will be confirmed by Nashik Police and the Kumbh Mela authority closer to the dates. We will update this page then.
Nashik to Trimbakeshwar
- MSRTC buses run frequently from Nashik's central bus stands to Trimbakeshwar (about 1 hour).
- Shared and private cabs are easy to find; on peak days roads close nearer the town and you walk the last stretch.
- Anjaneri, believed to be Hanuman's birthplace, is on the way and easy to add.
